Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu Thursday said Bangladesh Betar still has the importance among the common people as around 65 per cent people are now able to know information from Betar, reports BSS.
"There is no alternative to radio to know any information instantly in the country," Inu told a rally at Shahbagh Betar kendra in the city.
The rally was organised marking the World Betar Day.
Officials of community radio, Bangladesh Betar and FM Radio took part in the rally.
Among others, State Minister for Finance MA Mannan, Information Secretary Mortuja Ahmed, director general of Bangladesh Betar Akter Uddin Ahmed and deputy director Mahfujul Islam joined the rally.
Inu said necessary steps would be taken to reach Betar news gradually to all. He called upon the countrymen to hear Betar programmes.
He stressed the need for participation of womenfolk in information technology (IT). "The government is working on it," he said.
Starting from the Betar Kendra, the rally paraded different city streets and ended at the centre.
