763 killed in road, rail and waterway accidents in Apr

At least 708 people were killed and 2,426 others were injured in 683 road accidents across the country in April this year, according to a report of the passenger welfare association on Wednesday.

Furthermore, 47 people were killed and 36 were injured in railway accidents while 8 people were killed in boat capsized incidents in April, the report that was prepared based on media reports, hospitals and other sources, said.

In total, 763 people were killed and 2472 were injured in a total of 733 accidents on road, rail and waterways.

During this period, 274 people were killed and 328 people injured in 305 motorcycle accidents. It is 44.65 per cent of the total accidents, 38.70 per cent of the total dead.

In April, the most road accidents occurred in Dhaka division with 155 road accidents in which 179 people were killed and 305 injured. Barisal Division witnessed the least road accidents in which 53 people were killed and 48 injured in 35 road accidents.

This information has emerged in the monitoring report of the Accident Monitoring Cell of Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity.
