The Bangladesh Railway (BR) has identified 1,041 points along the rail track as risky as they are prone to attacks by saboteurs and blockaders, reports BSS.
"We have deployed 8,325 Ansar and VDP members to guard those 1,041 at risk points to check further vandalism in railway," Railway Minister M Mujubul Huq told journalists at a briefing at Railbhaban in the city.
The minister said, besides Ansar and VDP members, other law enforcing agencies including BGB, RAB, police and railway police are also involved in ensuring safety of railway.
"We have already made arrangement for advance pilot train and motor trolley ahead of the departure of any train," he said.
The railway minister sought cooperation of mass people for ensuring safety of the country's railway from vandalism.
"The government has taken realistic steps along with tightening security for ensuring safe train journey," he said.
Huq said the railway has taken various steps to carry essential commodities including vegetables across the country.  "We have attached one luggage van to every train," he added.
The minister said around 40 tonnes of vegetables are being carried daily through railway since the countrywide blockade enforced by the opposition.
Railway secretary M Abul Kalam Azad and Bangladesh Railway Director General M Abu Taher were also present at the briefing.
