A female elephant dies after falling down from a hilltop

COX'S BAZAR, Oct. 17 (BSS): A female elephant, member of the majestic species of the wild animal, slipped deep down from a hilltop and died instantaneously in the dense jungle of Ramu last Saturday.
The police and local forest department sources said that the mishap took place at the Kalatali reserved forest under Eidgarh union of Ramu Upazila under Cox's Bazar district.
Hearing of the sad demise of a hefty elephant, a team of forest department personnel led by Divisional Forest Officer of Cox's Bazar Range, Abani Bhushan Thakur, went to the place of occurrence.
Veterinary surgeon, Mukesh Baiddya, who accompanied the forest department team, declared the 40-45 year old elephant dead. He observed that the elephant died because of fatal injuries the animal received when it dashed against several slopes while falling down from the hilltop.
Baiddya conducted the post-mortem of the elephant in the presence of the forest department officials before it was buried at a nearby spot.
