ACC approves case against five including three cops

The Anti-Corruption Co-mmission (ACC) approved a case on Wednesday against five persons, including three policemen, for their involvement in embezzling 165 gold bars seized from smugglers in March last year.
The ACC approved the case following Deputy Director Mirza Zahidul Alam's investigation and submission of a charge sheet against five persons including three policemen, a police source and a driver at its office in the capital's Segunbagicha area.
The persons involved in the case are: Rampura Police Station's sub-inspector (SI) Manjurul Islam and constables Wahiduzzaman and Akash Chowdhury, their source Mahfuz Alam Rony and driver of a police-carrying vehicle Sojib Sikder.
ACC DD Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said a case would be filed very soon in this connection.
Detectives arrested the five persons on March 31, 2014 in this regard. A case was filed against them with Rampura Police Station on April 7.
Meanwhile, the ACC grilled three engineers of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) on Wednesday for amassing wealth illegally.
The officials are- senior assistant engineers Jahurul Alam Mandal and Firoz Alam Talukder and executive engineer Abdus Sattar.
On April 7, 2015 ACC deputy director Mir Joynul Abedin Shibli had summoned ten officials of LGED including these three.
In the letter, they were asked to appear before the ACC on April 15 and April 16 respectively.
The other officials are executive engineer Nazrul Islam, assistant engineers Atiar Rahman and AFSK Nazrul Islam, superintending engineer Shahidur Rahman Pramanik, additional chief engineer Mohsin, project (CDSP-4) director Rezaul Karim, and upazila engineer Khandakar Asaduzzaman.
