FE REPORT | December 07, 2019 00:00:00

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Friday nabbed an official of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) red-handed with bribe money of Tk 0.1 million.

The detainee, HM Rashed Sarker, a licence inspector and consultant of CAAB, used to allow the examinees in the commercial pilot recruitment test in exchange for bribe without scrutinising their licences following due procedure.

Getting informed, a team from the ACC headquarters led by deputy director Masudur Rahman laid a trap to catch Mr Sarker while receiving bribe at a restaurant in the city's Uttara, said ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.

A case will be filed shortly in this connection with ACC integrated district office-1 in Dhaka, he said.

Earlier on Tuesday (December 03), ACC arrested two former officials of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on charge of embezzling Tk 1.18 billion from the city's Segunbagicha area.

The two arrestees -- former marketing and sales director of Biman Ali Ahsan Babu and former manager (export) Iftekhar Hossain Chowdhury misappropriated the money which was supposed to be deposited to the government exchequer as cargo handling charge.
