FE REPORT

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has quizzed five officials of Rupali Bank PLC as part of its investigation into alleged irregularities and corruption in recruitment of 801 officers and employees nearly a decade ago.

A team led by ACC Assistant Director Mohammad Azgar Hossain at the commission's headquarters is conducting the inquiry. As part of the investigation, the anti-graft body quizzed the five bank officials on July 7.

The officials are Principal Officers Tapasi Roy, Tanvir Ahmed Chowdhury, Monir Hossain, Amrita Kumar Baruri and Md Akherul Wali.

ACC officials said the questioning yielded important information relevant to the investigation.

Sources said the inquiry team is also examining allegations of irregularities and corruption in promotions, staff training and disbursement of house-building loans at the state-owned bank, in addition to the alleged recruitment irregularities involving the 801 employees in 2014.

The ACC recently sent a letter to the bank's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer seeking documents related to the recruitment process, including the recruitment notice, written and oral examination records, answer scripts and other relevant papers concerning appointment of the 801 officers and employees.

ACC Public Relations Officer Md Akhtarul Islam said the commission was investigating allegations of irregularities and corruption in the recruitment and promotion processes involving the 801 officials and employees.
