ACC starts inquiry against Hasina's ex-press secy Nayeemul


The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an inquiry into the allegations of corruption and illegal wealth accumulation against journalist Nayeemul Islam Khan, who was a press secretary to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, along with his wife and children.
ACC sources said the decision to begin the probe was made on Tuesday. They also said Khan and his family maintain 163 bank accounts, with deposits amounting to Tk 3.86 billion. Of this, Tk 3.795 billion has been withdrawn, with Tk 62.7 million remaining.
Besides, sources said Khan holds 91 personal bank accounts, where deposits totalled Tk 2.49 billion. Of this, Tk 2.383 billion has been withdrawn.
His wife Nasima Khan Monty manages 13 accounts, which received Tk 169.6 million in deposits. Out of this, she has withdrawn Tk 130 million, leaving Tk 39.6 million.
Khan's three daughters also have accounts with substantial deposits. Adiba Naem Khan's account holds Tk 3.5 million, while Labiba Naem Khan has Tk 12.5 million. Zulika Naem Khan's account has Tk 6.1 million. Moreover, 46 accounts linked to Khan's business ventures received deposits totalling Tk 1.276 billion. Only Tk 2.1 million remains in the accounts.
