ACC threatens to sue police officer Mizan

May 08, 2018 00:00:00

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has threatened to file a case against Deputy Inspector General of police Mizanur Rahman for obstructing their investigation into his finances, reports bdnews24.com.

The police official failed to submit documents necessary for the investigation by the deadline, said ACC Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin. In January, Rahman, who had a wife and a child, was accused of forcibly marrying another woman and beating her.

He was also alleged to have threatened a female journalist. Rahman was later removed from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and the ACC began an investigation into his illegal wealth.

ACC officials quizzed Rahman for seven hours at the corruption watchdog's offices in Dhaka on May 3.

He was ordered to submit several documents regarding his wealth and earnings by Sunday.

"DIG Mizan was told to submit some documents for the ACC investigation by Monday," said ACC Secretary Arefin.

"But he has not done it. If he continues to obstruct the investigation this way, the ACC will file a case against him."
