Accurate statistics needed for slum development

Secretary to the Statistics and Informatics Division Md Nojibur Rahman said Saturday accurate statistics could lead to proper planning for the development of the slum people.
"We need accurate statistics for undertaking development plans especially for the slum people," Mr. Rahman said while speaking at the city's Korail slum.
The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) is conducting the country's third Census of Slum Areas and Floating Population-2014.
Expressing satisfaction with the counting, Mr Rahman said the BBS is monitoring the census activities very closely so that none of the slum dwellers remains outside the counting.
He said counting is going in the desired direction.
The Census began on April 25 and it will continue until May 2.
According to an estimate, there are 13000 households at the city's Korail Slum.
During the visit, deputy director general of the BBS Baitul Amin Bhuiyan, programme director of the Census of Slum Areas and Floating Population-2014 Md Jafar Ahmed Khan, programme director of the Monitoring the Situation of Vital Statistics of Bangladesh Md Ashraful Hoque were present, among others.
