An accused in a murder case made a suicide attempt in the safe custody of Ramna police station Wednesday afternoon.
"Motiur Rahman Ripon (30), an accused in the killing of a Swechhasebak League leader, made an attempt to commit suicide by cutting his throat with a blade under the safe custody of Ramna police at around 3.00 pm," officer-in-charge (investigation) of Ramna police station Md Selim told BSS.
Ripon suffered minor injuries in his neck and was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), he said.
Earlier on January 23 evening, a gang of four criminals indiscriminately stabbed to death a Swechhasebak League leader Mahbubur Rahman Rana (30) in front of a mosque at Bhatara Lane, Moghbazar under Ramna police station.
Ripon was held on the same night in connection with the killing and was being interrogated on a three-day remand under the custody of Ramna police station.
