Participants at a rally demanded Thursday immediate action against those responsible for the demolition and occupation of a number of schools in the capital, reports UNB.
Bangladesh Chhata Union (BCU) organised the rally in front of Siddheshwari Girls' High School and College on Bailey Road in protest against the illegal occupation and demolition of 28 schools in the capital.
Teachers and students of 20 educational institutions, guardians, activists and educationists joined the rally to express their solidarity with the demand.
The speakers slammed the government for the recent demolition of Samajik Shikkha Kendra Government Primary School on Bailey Road and Champa-Parul Government Primary School in Mirpur.
Addressing the rally, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) general secretary Syed Abu Zafar Ahmed said, "Education can't be commercialised. The government can't make supermarkets destroying the schools."
