ActionAid renews vow to battle poverty

ActionAid Bangladesh Sunday held its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) with a renewed commitment to battle poverty, according to its press release.

The ten-member Executive Board of ActionAid Bangladesh, headed by noted educationist and founder of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed as Chair took place in the conference room of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro.

The Executive Board members called upon the newly-inducted general assembly members to extend their support from individual level to help ActionAid further strengthen its intervention and expand its outreach as per its commitment towards the excluded and marginalised people.

The senior leadership team of ActionAid Bangladesh shared an overview of the development initiative that ActionAid Bangladesh undertook in the year 2013. The General Assembly approved the annual report and Audit report of 2012 and governance report after those were placed with details.

The senior leadership also projected the status of the financial income and expenditure of ActionAid Bangladesh of 2012 and 2013. Country Director of ActionAid Bangladesh, Farah Kabir shared the achievement and challenges that ActionAid Bangladesh faced while carrying out its operations at all strata.

The General Assembly members later discussed the course of actions that ActionAid will need to follow to tackle the probable challenges in coming days and ensure smooth, unhindered operation.

The Executive Board of ActionAid Bangladesh comprises diverse individuals in the governing body which include former advisor to the caretaker government and TIB Board of Trustee member M Hafizuddin Khan, senior lawyer of the Supreme Court Dr Shahdeen Malik, Professor Dr Sumaiya Khair, Deputy Executive Director of TIB, advocate Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Chief Executive of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA),  Parveen Mahmud (FCA), CEO of Grameen Telecom Trust and noted social worker and Magsaysay Award laureate Angela Gomes.
