FE REPORT
Severe traffic congestion paralysed most of the key roads in the capital on Wednesday afternoon, causing immense sufferings to commuters.
Important roads in the areas like Paltan, High Court, Matshya Bhaban, Shahbag, Farmgate, Tejgaon, Mogbazar, Kakrail, Jatrabari, Mirpur, Bijoy Sharani, Shantinagar, Science Lab, Elephant Road, New Market, Badda and Banani witnessed massive tailback.
Vehicles had remained stranded on different key roads for a long time since noon.
As a result, the city dwellers, especially the working people, had to suffer the most.
A good number of people went to their destinations and working places on their feet after getting down from buses or other modes of transportation.
"Usually, it takes around 30 to 45 minutes to come to my office at Paltan from Mirpur by my motorbike. But, on Wednesday I reached my workstation in more than two hours," one Salahuddin Khokon told the FE.
He observed that such acute traffic congestion occurred due to processions of a major political party in the city on Wednesday afternoon.
Another working woman said she had to remain stranded in her private car in different areas of the city for some two hours following the gridlock.
