The newly-appointed administrators of the two Dhaka city corporations took over their responsibilities on Tuesday, a day after the interim government dismissed 12 city mayors, including those of DNCC and DSCC.
However, the government is yet to make any decision regarding the councillors.
Assuming the responsibilities, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) administrator Mahmudul Hasan and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) administrator Dr Moh Sher Ali vowed to ensure providing uninterrupted services to the citizens. Both of them are additional secretaries of the Local Government Division.
On the first day of their office, the administrators had meetings with the city corporations' top officials, followed by view-exchange meetings with journalists, according to press releases.
The DNCC administrator said: "We will perform our duties with the highest priority to fulfil the expectations of students and people from the current interim government."
Focusing on seamless continuation of the DNCC's regular activities, he said mosquito-repelling activities would be strengthened to prevent dengue.
Responding to a query, Mr Mahmudul Hasan said all the financial and administrative activities of the government institutions come under regular audit. Therefore, actions will be taken against any irregularity or corruption according to the rules.
The government has not yet taken any decision regarding the city councillors and the services provided through them, he added.
The DSCC administrator said he took over the responsibility assigned by the government in a special context.
"I've held discussion with my colleagues to learn whether there are any challenges in the corporation's current work. Also, we've issued guidance to provide services to people in an efficient manner."
