Advance train ticket sale from July 1

FE Report | June 23, 2022 00:00:00

Bangladesh Railway (BR) will start selling advance train tickets from July 1 to facilitate the journey of home-bound people on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha with adding six sets of special trains to its fleet.

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujon disclosed this on Wednesday while launching a new app 'rail seba' at Rail Bhaban in the city. It will help the passengers in buying half of the train tickets online, he added.

He also said the tickets for special trains to be running on Dewanganj, Chandpur, Panchagarh and Solakia routes will not be available through this app as those have to be bought from ticket counters at railway stations.

The railway minister said no special train will run on the Dhaka-Khulna route as the majority of home-bound people will now prefer to go home by road than train after the opening of Padma Bridge.

Like previous Eid arrangements, he said, they have decided to sell tickets from the counters aiming to avoid pressure on specific railway stations.

Sale of return tickets will start from July 7 and continue until July 11.

The railway minister said seat arrangement for the passengers of Rangpur and Lalmonirhat will be kept in the BMSI special train with the facility for availing connecting trains through Parbatipur station.

When asked about the problem in buying the tickets during last Eid, he expressed the hope that the problem the passengers faced earlier would not happen this year as Sohoj-Synesis-Vincen JV has got enough time to make the app ready.

"Sohoj has now got adequate time and also gained experience. So, we expect that incidents like last time would not happen," Sujon told the journalists.

The minister said if the app this time works well, initiative may be taken to increase the share of online train tickets in the future. But the share of online and counter tickets will be 50:50 on the occasion of Eid-ul Azha.

The BR will start selling tickets online from 8 am through both apps. The counters will remain open from 8 am to 4 pm for buying Eid tickets in advance.

Like the previous time, the BR will sell tickets from Kamalapur station for all North-Bengal-bound intercity trains and BMSI Eid special, Rajshahi, and Khulna-bound intercity trains.

Chattogram and Noakhali-bound passengers will buy tickets from Dhaka Airport station, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Dewanganj-bound intercity, Dewanganj special train from Tejgaon, Mohonganj-bound Mohonganj and Haor Express trains from Dhaka Cantonment, Sylhet and Kishoreganj-bound intercity trains from Fulbaria old station and Joydebpur for BMSI Eid special.
