Akramul Qader meets Congressman Whitfield

WASHINGTON, May 20 (BSS): Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Akramul Qader met Monday Republican Congressman Ed Whitfield, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy and Power at the Capitol Hill in Washington , according to an official handout issued here Tuesday.
The Ambassador briefed Ed Whitefield on the current economic advancements in Bangladesh. He stated that Bangladesh was maintaining over 6 per cent growth for more than a decade having a population of nearly 160 million.
Ambassador Qader briefed the Congressman on the workers' rights and safety in the RMG sector in Bangladesh. He said Bangladesh had been steadily implementing the commitments made and suggestions elaborated by the US, EU and development partners. Yet, it remains a continuous process.
The Bangladesh Ambassador sought the support of the congressman for restoration of GSP benefits for Bangladesh. He also briefed the congressman on the current energy and power scenario and prospects of renewable solar energy in Bangladesh.
