The government has appointed Md Aminul Islam, a pro-BNP Supreme Court lawyer, as the new chief prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in Dhaka, replacing Muhammad Tajul Islam.
The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs issued a notification on Monday, confirming the appointment. He has been appointed as the chief prosecutor of the ICT, and would conduct cases until further notice. The previous appointment of Muhammad Tajul Islam to the same post has been cancelled.
Md Aminul Islam assumed the responsibilities of the chief prosecutor on Monday following his appointment. Immediate past chief prosecutor Tajul Islam formally handed over charge to him at around 2:15 pm.
The new chief prosecutor assured that no innocent person would face harassment.
"However, I want to send a clear message on behalf of the prosecution that those who are truly guilty will receive the punishment they deserve," he said.
