Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Monday stressed the need for product diversification in the state-owned sugar mills to step out of the trend of losses. At a meeting with the officials of Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) at the Industries Ministry, Amu also directed the officials to submit a plan for making the state-owned sugar mills profitable at the shortest time possible. He instructed the officials to pin down which factors contributed to the profitability of the state-owned sugar mills during 1996-2001. Amu also recommended the production of refined sugar instead of raw sugar to minimise the losses, according to a news agency.
