Another policeman succumbed to coronavirus infection, raising the death toll within the Bangladesh law-enforcement agency's ranks to nine, reports bdnews24.com.
Sub-inspector Mujibur Rahman Talukder of the special branch of police's Paltan Zone-1, lost his battle with COVID-19 at the Central Police Hospital in city's Rajarbagh on Monday morning, according to the Police Headquarters.
The 56-year-old had initially been admitted to the capital's Impulse Hospital on May 11 after testing positive for COVID-19.
He was later shifted to the intensive care unit of the Central Police Hospital after his condition deteriorated.
Mujibur hailed from Sirajganj's Tarakandi village but his family later settled in Bogura's Shakh Para village. He leaves behind his wife and a daughter.
His body has been sent to his village home in Bogura under police supervision, the Police Headquarters said.
The coronavirus has infected 2,557 policemen who have been working on the ground to enforce the lockdown in the country. So far, 381 infected officers have recovered from the disease.
Meanwhile, UNB adds: A Judge of the High Court Division is undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka as he has been diagnosed with coronavirus.
Judge Sashanka Shekhar Sarkar was infected with the virus on May 11 and taken to Mugda Medical College and Hospital on May 13 following the deterioration of his health condition.
Later, he was shifted to the CMH, said an official source.
Sashanka Shekhar, hailing from Bagerhat, was appointed Judge of the High Court division on May 30, 2018.
Our correspondent from Sylhet adds: Businessman Dobir Uddin, 65, who died of COVID-19 on Sunday night was buried at the city's Hajrat Manik Pir Tila on Monday.
Hailing from suburban Nishchintapur village of Dakshin Surma upazila of Sylhet Dobir Uddin he died of coronavirus at the Shahid Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital.
In-charge of Dr Sahid Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital's Isolation Centre Dr. Sushanto Kumar Mohapatron said Dobir admitted to the hospital with acute respiratory problem and other symptoms of coronavirus at 9.00 pm and died after two hours.
The number of Covid-19 patients stood at 421 in Sylhet division until Monday morning.
