April 18, 2018 00:00:00

Rajib Hossain, the student who lost his right arm to a race between two buses in the city, died on Tuesday, reports bdnews24.com.

Sub-Inspector Bachchu Mia at Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp told the news agency Rajib passed away after Monday midnight.

He was put on life support when he had breathing difficulty at the hospital's intensive care unit on April 10. He also appeared less 'conscious' of his surroundings than he was before.

Dr Shamsuzzaman, the chief of the medical board formed for his care, said at the time, "This happens in the case of a head injury."

Besides losing his right arm from the elbow, Rajib had broken bones in the front and back of the head in the accident.

His aunt Jahanara Begum said the doctors declared him dead around 1:45am on Tuesday.

She said they wanted to take the body to Patuakhali, from where Rajib hailed.

The undergraduate student's arm was crushed between the two buses due to the reckless driving of the drivers of BTRC and Swajan Paribahan.

Rajib was first admitted to Panthapath's Samorita Hospital and then transferred to DMCH.

The High Court earlier ordered the BRTC and Swajan Paribahan to pick the bill for Rajib's treatment, and asked why they should not pay him Tk 10 million in damages.
