Army chief's father Shariful passes away

Shariful Huq, father of Chief of Bangladesh Army General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq and former mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Annisul Huq, passed away at a hospital in the city on Wednesday morning, reports UNB.

He was 96. He breathed his last at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) around 11:20 am, said Rezaul Karim, assistant director of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Shariful Huq was suffering from old age complications for a long time, he added.

Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina expressed their deep shock and sorrow at the death of Shariful Huq.

In a condolence message, President Hamid prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and also expressed sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.

The Prime Minister in her condolence message prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

She also expressed her sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.

Family sources said Huq would be buried at Banani graveyard on Saturday after his two expatriate sons reach Dhaka from the United States. Huq was a former director of Bangladesh Ansar from where he retired in 1982.
