Arrest Hasina, send to BD

SCBA president urges Delhi

FE REPORT | August 07, 2024 00:00:00

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan urged the Indian government to arrest Sheikh Hasina and send her to Bangladesh.

He said, "Killer Hasina has fled to India. I urge the Indian government to arrest her and send her to Bangladesh. The two countries have an agreement for exchanging prisoners."

He made the appeal from a press conference, held at the SCBA auditorium in the capital on Tuesday. Some other SCBA officials and members were present in the press conference.

The SCBA president demanded resignation of a section of judges of the Appellate Division and the High Court Division, who violated their oaths through biased trial proceedings or politics.

Without mentioning the judges' names, he warned that if the judges do not resign, he would publish the names, who violated their oaths.

"Many judges in the courts didn't do their trial proceedings according to their oaths, rather they did politics. They issued remand and conviction orders from political consideration. They violated their oath being too enthusiastic. Many of them committed corruption. They have no right to hold their posts."

Mahbub Uddin Khokan urged the authorities concerned not to issue a state of emergency in the country.

"There is a buzz about issuing a state of emergency. We don't want any government like that of Gen Moeen U Ahmed and Fakhruddin Ahmed. No one, including the students, wants the state of emergency. They will protest, if any initiative is taken to issue the emergency."

He urged the President to suspend Articles 7(A) and 7(B) of the Constitution through an ordinance, so that the formation of an interim government can be smooth.

The SCBA president also demanded resignations of the state law officers, including the attorney general, along with the chiefs and officials of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), within a week, as they were appointed by the Hasina-led government.

He further made appeal to release all the political prisoners in the country through an executive order and withdraw their cases.
