Australia donates US$ 90,000 for flood victims

Australia has donated US$ 90,000 for the flood victims of Bangladesh through United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), reports UNB.
The WFP Wednesday welcomed the contribution from the Australian government to provide food to the most vulnerable flood affected people in the worst affected districts in Bangladesh.
"The Australian contribution is crucial for our operations, which help ensure that several hundred thousands of flood affected people have their nutritional needs covered," said Douglas Broderick, WFP Representative in Bangladesh.
The Australian contribution enabled WFP to purchase 141 metric tons of fortified biscuits as contingency reserve. WFP has been distribution by food in the form of fortified biscuits to more than 200,000 people.

The recent floods have displaced hundreds of thousands of people from their homes, and disrupted rail and road communications in several districts.
"These ready-to-eat biscuits an essential food and nutrition to the thousands of poor flood affected people", said Australian High Commissioner Douglas Foskett.
