Auto-rickshaw driver\\\'s death sparks protest in Keraniganj

Local people set a police vehicle afire and put barricade on Dhaka-Maowa highway protesting the death of an auto-rickshaw driver in a road crash Friday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Shah Alam (35), hailed from Uttar Shubhadda of Dakshin Keraniganj.

Witnesses said when police of Hashara cap under Srinagar focused torchlight on auto-rickshaw driver Shah Alam and asked him to halt his vehicle on Dhaka-Maowa highway a speeding truck hit the auto-rickshaw from behind, leaving Shah Alam dead on the spot at 3:00 am Friday.

Angered by the accident, local people put up barricade on the highway, disrupteing traffic movement for half-an-hour.

As police tried to disperse them they set fire to a police vehicle.
