Drivers of CNG-run auto-rickshaws in the city on Monday demanded implementation of the government-fixed deposit of Tk 600 per day for a vehicle, reports UNB.
They placed the demand at a human chain arranged by Dhaka Zilla Four-Stroke Auto-rickshaw Drivers' Union in front of the Jatiya Press Club.
The drivers urged the government to punish the auto-rickshaw owners for charging Tk 1,200, two times than the rent rate set by the government, from the drivers.
They also demanded stopping harassment and filing cases by traffic police against them, and providing identity cards for them having licences.
President of the drivers' union Faruk Chowdhury and its general secretary Towhidur Rahman Mollah, among others, spoke on the occasion.
