The first death anniversary of noted journalist and writer Baby Moudud will be observed today (Saturday), reports BSS.
To mark her death anniversary, Milad and Doa mahfil will be organised after Asar prayers, her family sources said Friday.
A commemorative meeting was organised at the National Press Club recalling her contributions to journalism. Sangbadik Samaj organised the meeting with Prof emeritus Anisuzzaman in the chair.
The meeting was addressed, among others, by Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, researcher and writer Syed Abul Moksud, Editor of Daily Samakal Golam Sarwar, President of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Mujahidul Islam Selim, Poet Quazi Rozi MP, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Mahbubul Haq Shakil and President of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Altaf Mahmud.
Baby Moudud, a former lawmaker and one of the organisers of Women Rights Movement died of cancer at the age of 66.
Daughter of Justice Abdul Moudud and Hedayetunnesa, she was born in Kolkata on June 23, 1948. Baby Moudud was third among her six brothers and three sisters.
Baby Moudud was a former Chief News Editor of the state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS). She started journalism in 1967 while studying at Dhaka University.
She was acting editor of weekly Bichitra for a long time. She worked as editor on social issues at BD news 24.com.
She worked in different mainstream newspapers and news agencies like Daily Sangbad, BBC, Daily Ittefaq, Daily Chitrali, Weekly Lalana, Weekly Runner, Daily Azad, Daily Gano Bangla and Daily Muktokantha.
