BADC constructs 30 dams in CHT to provide irrigation facilities

RANGAMATI, Oct 06 (BSS): Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) has constructed 30 dams in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) to provide irrigation facilities for the farmers of the area, official sources said.
The dams have been constructed under second phase of 'Chittagong Hill Tracts Integrated Agriculture Development Project' at a cost of Tk 105.1 million.
After completion of construction works in 2007-08 financial year the dams were handed over to the farmers' groups, Khondoker Mahabubul Alam, project director of the project told the news agency.
Of those, 10 were constructed in Rangamati, eight in Khagrachhari and 12 in Bandarban Hill District.
Earlier, BADC also constructed 72 dams-27 in Rangamati, 15 in Khagrachhari and 30 in Bandarban Hill District involving Tk 394.6 million-under the first phase of the project, he said.
