The High Court (HC) granted ad-interim bail for six months to Jewel Hasan Saddam, President of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Bagerhat Sadar Upazila unit, on humanitarian grounds following the death of his wife and nine-month-old child.
The HC bench of Justice J B M Hassan and Justice Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan passed the order on Monday after hearing a bail petition filed by Saddam. Lawyer Mohammad Sayed Ahmed Raza appeared in the court hearing on behalf of Saddam, while Deputy Attorney General Sultana Akter Rubi represented the state.
Saddam was arrested on April 5, 2024 in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act, and now detained in Jashore jail. He secured bail in seven cases so far, including the present one, following his arrest. He was shown arrested in cases one after another; each time a bail bond reached the jail gate in a particular case.
