Ban on battery-run rickshaws on JU campus

The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have banned plying of battery-run rickshaws on campus considering its bad effects.

JU authorities also said if anybody runs battery -run rickshaws on campus violating the decision he will be punished.

Md. Nurul Amin, acting officer of estate department, confirmed this to this correspondent.

He said around 100 battery-run rickshaws were running on campus. The battery-run rickshaws often cause accidents on campus, he added.

Prof. Khabir Uddin of Environmental Science said, "The battery run rickshaw emits lead whichis very harmful for children."
