The 85th birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be observed Saturday, reports UNB.
The ruling Awami League along with other social and political organisations will hold various daylong programmes to mark the day.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the eldest daughter of Bangamata, will attend a programme at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium marking her birth anniversary.
Begum Mujib, wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was killed along with Bangabandhu and most of her family members by a disgruntled group of army officers on August 15, 1975. Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana are her two surviving children. They were abroad at that time.
Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib, nicknamed Renu, was born in Tungipara in Gopalganj in 1930. Her early schooling was in a missionary school but later she did home schooling.
She lost her parents at the age of five and was raised by her future mother-in-law, mother of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. She was married to Bangabandhu at the age of 11 and had three sons and two daughters.
