Bangladesh PEN Centre AGM held

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Bangladesh PEN Centre was held at its office in the city recently, said a press release.
President of the centre Mrs Farida Hossain presided over the meet, conducted by Secretary General Mobarak Hossain Khan.
The meeting discussed activities of the centre during 2009 in the areas of freedom of expression, human rights, gender equality, empowerment and promotion of women writers.
The centre during the year upheld the role and contribution of writers and journalists, worked towards development of language in view of the International Mother Language Day, arranged regular workshops on translation and linguistics, democratic values and other related matters, organised literary and poetry recitation programmes marking different national days, actively engaged in building a world of peace, prosperity and understanding through its literary and cultural programmes.
