Bank A/Cs of ex-minister Mannan, family frozen

The government on Tuesday imposed a travel ban on former project director of Karnaphuli tunnel Harun-or Rashid Chowdhury and his wife.

It also froze the bank accounts of former planning minister MA Manna and his family members, officials said.

The measures came following instruction by the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

The special branch of police imposed the travel ban on Harun family while banks froze the bank accounts of Mannan family.

Both families are suspected to have concealed actual income and evaded tax.

CIC officials said Mr Sadat Mannan, son of MA Mannan, is a suspected tax evader as he showed Tk 2.13 billion in the tax file but did not disclose the sources of income.

Sadat Mannan was an Upazila chairman in Sylhet.

CIC senior officials said that Mr Harun attempted to flee the country for the Maldives.
