Banks to remain open July 11

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has advised the country’s all scheduled commercial banks to keep open their branches on July 11 (Saturday) to facilitating the payment of salaries and bonuses of ready-made garment (RMG) workers. In a circular issued on July 2 by the Department of Off-site Supervision of the central bank gave this advice in response to a request of garment factory owners to keep open bank branches, particularly those located in Dhaka, Ashulia, Savar, Tongi, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Chittagong cities. The BB asked the bank authorities to ensure adequate securities on the day for smooth transactions in the banks. It also asked the banks to pay logical and respectful remunerations to their officials and employees for doing duties on the day. The BB circular also mentioned its existing order remain effective as usual regarding keeping the banks’ AD braches open at airports, sea ports and other land ports on Friday and Saturday, according to a news agency.
