Members of the Dhaka Bar Association staged a sit-in on the premises of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court, Dhaka Tuesday morning demanding installation of more lifts in the court, reports UNB.
A group of members of the bar association, led by its president M Mohsin Miah and general secretary Mosleuddin, started the sit-in programme at 9:00 am, disrupting all activities of the CMM court. It ended at 10:30 am.
Lawyers at the court said there are only two lifts in the 10-storey building of the court, which is less than required.
General people, including lawyers and court employees, have to stand in queues in front of the lifts for one to one and a half hours during the court time as the existing lifts cannot cope with the pressure.
Many of the litigants and lawyers become sick as they have to go to the court rooms on the 8th or 10th floor climbing stairs, for absence of required number of lifts, they noted.
The demonstrators urged the authorities to take necessary steps to set up more lifts.
