Barrister Mainul laid to eternal rest


Veteran jurist Barrister Mainul Hosein was buried at Azimpur Graveyard around 4:00 pm on Sunday.
Earlier on the day, his first namaz-e-janaza was held at the Baridhara Jame Mosque and Islamic Centre in the city at 10.30 am, followed by the second one at the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) premises after Zuhr prayers and the third one at The New Nation office premises at 2.40 pm.
The apex court suspended its second-half proceedings from 11 am to 1:30 pm on Sunday, paying tribute to the veteran jurist, who died on Saturday evening.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan, announced the suspension in the morning.
Mr Hassan also announced suspension of the proceedings of the high court benches from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm on the day, before the namaz-e-janaza at the SCBA premises, followed by placing floral wreaths on behalf of the Chief Justice, the SCBA, and other organisations.
Barrister Mainul, also Printer and Publisher of The New Nation and former Law, Information and Land Adviser of the caretaker government, breathed his last at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka at the age of 83.
He had been suffering from various health complications over the last one year and was undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital for the last several days.
