BB donates instruments to DMCH Burn Unit

FE Report | November 10, 2014 00:00:00

Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr Atiur Rahman called upon the financial institutions (FIs) Sunday to strengthen their CSR activities especially in enhancing hospital facilities to provide modern treatment to patients.

Dr Atiur Rahman was addressing a programme organised by the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on the occasion of BB's donation of medical instruments to the unit under its disaster management and corporate social responsibility (CSR) fund.

The event was attended, among others, by BB deputy governor Shitangshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury, high officials of DMCH and representatives from different banks and FIs.

Citing the central bank's corporate social activities (CSR) in different sectors though it is a regulatory body, the governor expressed the hope that the banks and FIs would imitate the BB's footprint and be more active in augmenting their banking activities for welfare of the human beings under CSR.

Due to lack of sufficient necessary and modern instruments, they (doctors) might not be able to render better treatment to the burn patients and considering this issue the authorities have long been trying to modernise the intensive care unit (ICU) of the burn unit, he added.

"Bangladesh Bank feels proud of its cooperation to this effort of the burn unit," Dr Atiur Rahman said.

With the modern instruments, the burn unit of DMCH would be able to provide best treatment to the burn patients, he hoped.
