BCCT reform on cards

Boosting climate resilience efforts in focus

Move is underway to bring some reforms in Bangladesh Climate Change Trust (BCCT) so that the country can strengthen its role in achieving climate resilience.

Besides, measures are being taken to secure BCCT's registration as a Direct Access Entity to the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury shared the development at a meeting held at his Secretariat office on Thursday noon, says a press release.

Officials of the ministry and the Department of Environment and climate experts joined the meeting which focused on preparations for the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) in Azerbaijan, Baku, in November this year.

During the meeting, the minister highlighted Bangladesh's taking a strong preparation ahead of the COP29 to raise voice for adaptation finance and loss and damage finance.

He stressed the importance of developing a comprehensive strategy to effectively represent Bangladesh.

The meeting also focused on collaboration with the UN, GCF, and other international alliances, as well as organising side events in this regard.

Tapan Kumar Biswas, acting managing director of BCCT, Mohammad Rezaul Karim, joint secretary (Climate Change), Dharitri Kumar Sarkar, deputy secretary, and Dr Fazle Rabbi Sadek Ahmed, deputy managing director of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) were present at the meeting, among others.

A Bangladeshi delegation which recently participated in the 60th UNFCCC Subsidiary Body meeting in Bonn, Germany, briefed the minister on the outcome.

The minister gave essential advices and guidance in response.
