BCG seize contraband Indian sarees, cosmetics

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) seized a consignment of contraband Indian sarees and cosmetics from a place nearby Kanchpur Bridge under Siddhirganj Police Station in Narayanganj district on Saturday, says a statement.

BCG Headquarters media officer Lieutenant Commander Khandaker Munif Taqi confirmed the seizure.

He said acting on a tip-off, a special operation was conducted by the BCG Dhaka Zone's Pagla Station, led by Station Commander Lieutenant Ruhan Manjur.

A truck suspiciously loaded with stones bound for Dhaka from Sylhet was signaled to stop by the BCG members but the driver ignored it and ran away.

Meanwhile, BCG members seized 2,877 pieces of sarees, 1,008 pieces of body lotions and 4,500 pieces of cream worth around Tk (60 million) 6.0 crore.

The seized sharees, cosmetics and trucks were handed over to the Siddhirganj police station.
