Bangladesh has become the member of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), paving the path for the country to receive US$100 million in grant to improve its primary education, reports UNB.
"Bangladesh has become the 60th developing country partner of the Global Partnership for Education," deputy chief (planning) of the Primary and Mass Education Ministry Dr Imtiaz Mahmud told the news agency on Monday.
Working with GPE partners based in Bangladesh, the country has articulated its education priorities for the coming years, including improving education for 19 million children through more than 100,000 kindergartens, public primary schools and schools-run by the civil society organisations, officials said.
As a GPE member country, Bangladesh is now eligible to apply for a 'Programme Implementation Grant' in the amount of up to US$100 million over three years.
According to the officials, the Primary and Mass Education Ministry will soon apply for the grant to the authorities of the Washington-based GPE aiming to improve the country's primary education, and it is hopeful to get the grant.
