BD to turn into prosperous \\\'Sonar Bangla\\\', hopes President

President Md Abdul Hamid called upon Monday the countrymen irrespective of party affiliation to contribute more from their respective position towards building the country upholding the objectives and spirit of the War of Liberation, reports BSS.
In a message on the occasion of the Victory Day, he said: "It is my aspiration that with the concerted efforts of all, Bangladesh will turn into a happy and prosperous 'Sonar Bangla."
"The 16th December is our Victory Day. On this day in 1971, we achieved the ultimate victory through a nine-month long War of Liberation. On the eve of our great victory day, I extend my sincere felicitations and congratulations to my fellow countrymen living at home and abroad," he added.
He said: "Bangladesh emerged as an independent and sovereign state on the map of the world on this day. Today, I pay my deep homage to the valiant freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifices in the war of liberation in 1971 for the cause of country's independence."
On this very day, he also recalled with profound respect the greatest Bangali of all time, father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who established Bangladesh to the world map as a sovereign nation, shunning all sorts of oppression and repression throughout his life.
He also extended his deep gratitude to the valiant freedom fighters, organisers and supporters of the war of liberation and the people from all strata who directly and indirectly made huge contributions towards achieving victory.
Meanwhile, Outgoing US Ambassador Dan Mozena paid a farewell call on President Md Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban Monday and said Bangladesh and the USA are trying to deepen their ties further, report agencies.
The US envoy said Bangladesh and the USA are enjoying excellent bilateral relations and trying to elevate the ties, President's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told the news agencies after the meeting.
He said the USA has cooperation with Bangladesh in many sectors, including health, agriculture and maritime security.
Sharing the experience of his countrywide visit, Mr Mozena said Bangladesh has many positive sides and is impressed by visiting Mujibnagar in Meherpur and Gopalganj's Tungipara, the birth place of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
During the call on, Mozena said he received the fullest cooperation and support from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as well as the government in discharging his duties in Bangladesh, President's press secretary Ihsanul Karim said after the meeting.
Appreciating Mozena's countrywide tour, the President hoped that the ambassador would bear a good image of Bangladesh with him and present Bangladesh favourably wherever he can.
The President thanked the ambassador for his continued support in promoting Bangladesh-US bilateral relations.
