BD with 'Happy, Prosperous Nepal' programme: President

KATHMANDU, Nov 13 (UNB): President Abdul Hamid said on Wednesday Bangladesh will provide all sorts of assistance to Nepal in implementing its 'Happy, Prosperous Nepal' programme.

President Abdul Hamid said this while attending a meeting at a Kathmandu hotel with former prime minister of Nepal and co-chair of the Nepal Communist Party Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin quotating the president said the relation between the two countries is excellent, and hailed Nepal's journey towards democracy.

Assuring Bangladesh's overall cooperation in implementing a 'Happy, Prosperous Nepal' programme, Hamid said Bangladesh has also adopted Vision-2021 and 2041. From here, both countries can benefit from mutual cooperation.

Hamid said Bangladesh and Nepal hold common opinions on different international issues and support each other. The relationship will remain stable in the future, he expressed the hope.

Dahal said the existing relationship between two counties is excellent. There are ample opportunities to further develop this bilateral relationship at multilateral level.

He also emphasised increasing connectivity between the two countries by road, rail and sky, said Press Secretary Joynal Abedin.

Chairman of National Assembly (upper house) Ganesh Prasad Timilsina also met President Hamid at the same place.

During the meeting, the President said the support provided by the people of Nepal, especially their intelligentia, had a positive impact on Bangladesh's Liberation War.

He expressed his gratitude to the government of Nepal in this regard.

He said Bangladesh is a big market of 170 million people and it wants to help Nepal bring trade balance as the bilateral trade has a potential to grow through duty-free access.

Timilsina said Nepal's relations with Bangladesh are old and cordial. There is a similarity between the two countries' culture.

He said both countries are facing the adverse effects of climate change but neither of them is responsible for that.

The countries can work together to address the issue and play a vital role in various international forums.

Parliament Whip Md Atiur Rahman Atik, Member of Parliament ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque, Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal Mashfi Binte Shams, Secretary of the President's Office Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Major General SM Shamim-Uz-Zaman were present at the meeting.
