Bangladeshi nationals living in Yunnan province of China are safe following the earthquake that claimed some 398 lives there so far, reports UNB.

"The Bangladesh mission in Kunming contacted members of the Bangladesh community living in different areas under the jurisdiction of the mission and all have been found safe," said a foreign ministry release Sunday night.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina expressed Monday deep shock at the loss of lives in the earthquake that hit southwest China.

Rescuers dug through shattered homes Monday looking for survivors of the strong earthquake in Yunnan province as the death toll rose to at least 398 people with more than 1,800 injured.

About 12,000 homes collapsed when the quake struck Sunday afternoon in impoverished Ludian county, around 370 kilometers (230 miles) northeast of Yunnan's capital, Kunming.
