A two-day basic training on first aid was held for working journalists in the capital on July 6-7 to make them capable of responding to humanitarian crises and to disseminate ideas on saving life among them.
A total of 20 reporters from different mainstream media outlets participated in the workshop, arranged by the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) with support from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The programme concluded at the BDRCS head office in the capital on Thursday.
BDRCS Chairman Major General (Retd) A T M Abdul Wahab spoke at its closing session as the chief guest.
He said the training in first aid was very life-affirming. If various issues related with first aid are continuously published in the national dailies, its knowledge would easily reach to common people.
BDRCS managing board member and eminent journalist M Manzurul Islam and its secretary general Kazi Shafiqul Azam, among others, were present at the event.
Contents of the programme included introduction to first aid, choking, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, shock, bleeding, wounds and dressing of wounds, burn, fits, fainting, unconsciousness, poisoning, bites, bone fracture, and transportation of casualties.
The first aid training was jointly conducted by Tarun Kanti Saha, deputy director, training department of BDRCS, and Mrinal Kanti Roy, junior assistant director, disaster risk management.
