The first consignment of relief materials containing over one tonne of medicines and water purification tablets from Bangladesh has reached Myanmar, reports UNB.

Bangladesh Ambassador Sufiur Rahman handed over the relief materials to Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Daw Su Su Hlaing Saturday in a simple ceremony, according to Foreign Ministry.

Deputy Minister Hlaing received the materials and expressed gratitude to the government of Bangladesh for sending the much needed emergency medicines. She was particularly impressed with the speed of the response from Bangladesh.

He said other relief materials would be sent out at the earliest possible time.

Ambassador Rahman suggested that if Myanmar wishes Bangladesh could deliver the next consignments of tents and blankets directly to the worst affected states/regions, wherever feasible.
