Beaten by teacher, schoolgirl dies in Chittagong

CHITTAGONG, Aug 1 (UNB): A 12-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries Thursday night, 12 days after she was beaten allegedly by her private tutor at Koibartapara in Boalkhali Upazila.

The deceased was identified as Bristi Das, a student of Class-IV at Koibartapara Government Primary School under Boalkhali municipality and daughter of Ashutosh Das of the area.

Victim's family members alleged that Bristi Das had been suffering from fever since she was beaten by her private tutor Badal Dutta at his coaching centre near the school on July 19.

As her condition deteriorated, Bristi was taken to Boalkhali Upazila Health Complex Tuesday night. She succumbed to her injuries at around 10:30pm Thursday.

Boalkhali panel mayor Mizanur Rahman said he was informed that the poor girl died because she was beaten a few days back by her teacher at the coaching centre.

Boalkhali Police Station officer-in-charge Shamsul Islam said no one has so far filed a complaint in this regard.
