BIWTA to increase ferry services to ease Eid trips

The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) decided to increase the number of ferries and launches to facilitate hassle-free movement of Eid passengers and vehicles on the Daulatdia-Paturia river route.

According to a BIWTA official, 13 ferries and 17 launches are now operating on the route.

They will add two more ferries with the existing fleet of 12 and three more launches with the current number of 17 considering the growing pressure of passengers and vehicles.

He told the FE on Friday that they have completed necessary procedure to run increased numbers of ferry and launch services along with the existing ones.

He further said that goods-laden trucks would not be allowed to use Daulatdia ghat for seven days (three days before Eid, Eid day and three days after Eid).

The official, however, said trucks carrying perishable and emergency goods could use the Daulatdia route for movement.
