Police recovered dead bodies of a woman and her teenage daughter from their flat in Mohammadpur's Shahjahan Road area in the capital on Monday.

The deceased were identified are Laila Afroz (48) and her daughter Nafisa Nawal Binte Aziz (15).

Md Abdullah Al Mamun, Assistant Commissioner of Mohammadpur Zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said the bodies were recovered from the seventh floor of a building. Both bodies bore multiple stab wounds.

He also said preliminarily, it appears that their domestic help might have killed them and fled. Police were investigating the incident by reviewing CCTV footage. The bodies were sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, bdnews24.com adds, after the suspected double murder, police have set their sights on the domestic aide who had only been working at the home for four days.

CCTV footage shows the suspect, identified as Ayesha - believed to be around 20 - entering the flat at 7:51 am wearing a burqa and leaving an hour and a half later dressed in Nafisa's school uniform with a bag over her shoulder. The killings likely occurred during that time.

Nafisa's father Azizul Islam, a physics teacher at Sunbeams School in Uttara, returned home shortly before 11:00 am.

He found the door unlocked and discovered his daughter lying dead in the drawing room. His wife's body was found in a nearby room.

Officers said there were clear signs of a struggle inside the home, with blood on the floor and walls. The wardrobe and vanity bag had been ransacked, and police believed some items may have been taken. Two sharp knives were recovered from the scene.
