The Bangladesh Railway (BR) will start selling advance train tickets for the upcoming Eid journey from March 3, and the sale will continue until March 9. Return journey tickets will be available from March 13 to March 18.
The decision was taken at a preparatory meeting for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr travel management on Wednesday.
A press release of the Ministry of Railways said all of advance and return journey tickets will be sold online, continuing the previous practice. Advance tickets will not be refundable.
Tickets for travel on March 13 will be available on March 3, while tickets for March 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 will be sold sequentially on March 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. Tickets for March 20, 21 and 22 will be sold depending on the sighting of the moon.
For the western zone intercity trains, ticket sales will start at 8:00 am, while tickets for eastern zone trains will be issued from 2:00 pm. A passenger can purchase a maximum of four tickets at a time for both advance and return journeys.
The BR will operate five pairs of special trains in addition to regular intercity services to manage passengers' pressure during the Eid. These will operate on Chattogram-Chandpur-Chattogram, Dhaka-Dewanganj-Dhaka, Bhairab Bazar-Kishoreganj-Bhairab Bazar, Mymensingh-Kishoreganj-Mymensingh, and Joydebpur-Parbotipur-Joydebpur routes.
Return journey ticket sales will start from March 13 and continue until March 19. Tickets for March 23 will be sold on March 13, and tickets for March 24 to March 29 will be sold sequentially from March 14 to March 19. Container and fuel-carrying freight trains will continue their operations, but trains with all other goods will remain suspended.
