BRAC, a leading development NGO, has been awarded the 2007 'Stop TB Partnership Kochon Prize' in recognition of its outstanding achievements in tuberculosis (TB) control in Bangladesh, reports UNB.
The NGO is one of the two recipients of the 2007 Stop TB Partnership Kochon Prize that carries a medal, certificate and cash.
BRAC has been implementing TB control programme with the Bangladesh government since 1994 and has successfully covered 86.2 million people in 42 districts under the programme through diagnosis, treatment and social mobilisation.
The award ceremony for the 2007 Stop TB Partnership Kochon Prize will take place during the IUATLD Conference in Cape town on November 8-12 this year, said a BRAC press release Tuesday.
The Stop TB Partnership was established in 2000 to eliminate TB as a public health problem and ultimately to realise a world free of TB.
It comprises a network of more than 500 international organisations, countries, donors from the public and private sectors, and non-governmental and governmental organisations that have expressed an interest in working together to achieve this goal.
The KOCHON Foundation, a non-profit organisation has sponsored the Stop TB Partnership Kochon Prize.
